Maui and the giant fish.
Maui and the giant fish.
Maui always wanted to go fishing with his older brothers. but they always made up excuses of why he could not they would say ‘you're far too young to go fishing’. whilst they were making up reasons maui could not come maui had a strategy.
He weaved himself a fishing line out of flax and hid in the hull of the canoe. waiting till they got out deep enough he finally heard them drop the anchor and knew they were out too far to turn around.
He got out of the hull of the canoe his brothers were shocked they both scratched ‘what are you doing here?!’ maui said throw your lines in the water i will saying an ancient karakia to help us catch more fish the brothers threw their lines in the water. then instantly filled up the boat with fish maui then said, my turn to fish now’ the brothers laughed maui got his line ready can i have a piece of bait the brother s only laughed harder maui then hit himself on the nose and counted his jawbone hook in blood he then threw his hook far away and watched it sink to the bottom of the ocean a giant fish suddenly started pulling on the line forcing the boat across the ocean he pulled the fish up and told his brothers to stay and look after the fish. The brother were selfish and started to cut chunks of the giant fish and claim them as their own when maui returned with their people they all saw how greedy the brothers were and were praising maui on his marvellous fish and they say that i how new zealand was made.
